NBN has announced that download and upload speeds will increase for the NBN Home Fast, NBN Home Superfast, and NBN Home Ultrafast plans starting in September 2025. These upgrades will apply to users connected via FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) or HFC (Hybrid Fibre Coaxial).
How Much Faster Will It Be?
Download and upload speeds will be up to 5x faster depending on the plan. Additionally, a brand new gigabit-tier plan will be introduced, offering:
- Download speeds up to 2Gbps
- Upload speeds up to 200Mbps (for FTTP) or 100Mbps (for HFC)
What About Pricing?
NBN has confirmed that wholesale prices for the upgraded speed tiers will remain unchanged. However, retail service providers may choose to adjust their retail pricing independently. Additionally, NBN announced in May 2025 that wholesale prices will increase by up to $1.71 starting from July 1.
What Speeds Will You Get?
Upgraded Speeds for Existing Plans:
- NBN Home Fast: from 100/20 Mbps to 500/50 Mbps
- NBN Home Superfast: from 250/25 Mbps to 750/50 Mbps
- NBN Home Ultrafast: from 1000/50 Mbps to 1000/100 Mbps
New Plan:
- NBN Home Hyperfast: up to 2Gbps download and 200Mbps upload (FTTP) or 100Mbps (HFC)
Am I Eligible for the New Speeds?
The new higher-speed plans will only be available to customers with FTTP or HFC connections.
What Else Should I Know?
If you’re aiming for the highest NBN speeds — such as 2000Mbps downloads — your current modem might hold you back. To fully benefit from these speeds, make sure your modem supports 6 GHz Wi-Fi bands, such as a Wi-Fi 6E compatible modem. Otherwise, your speeds may be limited due to hardware constraints.
