The good news is that some NBN providers offer free Wi-Fi modems or routers when you switch to their service. This could be a great opportunity to upgrade.
However, be aware that these plans often come with a contract, typically for 1 or 2 years. If you cancel the contract early, you might be required to either pay for the modem/router or return it.

Telstra NBN plans with a free modem
Telstra offers a free Smart Modem to customers who purchase any NBN plan and stay connected for 24 months. The Smart Modem comes with Wi-Fi 6 and automatically switches to 4G in case of an outage. Please note, if you leave within 24 months, you may need to return the modem or pay a $200 non-return fee.
Optus NBN plans with a free modem
Optus offer free Ultra WiFi Modem Gen 2 for their nbn plans. The modem included WiFi 6,4G backup, 1GB Flash Memory and 1GB Storage Memory which can be connected upto 128 devices. However it reuired custoemr say with optus for 36 mths otherwise, you will need to pay upto $306 for modem cost. Beware, we did not see any text you can avoid this fee if return the modem
Vodafone NBN plans with a free modem
Vodafone also offers a free modem for their NBN customers. Similar to Telstra and Optus, their free modem includes 4G backup in case of service interruptions. However, be aware that, like other NBN providers, if you cancel the contract within 24 months, you may be charged up to $180 for the modem.
Superloop NBN plans with a free router
Superloop offers a free Amazon eero 6+ WiFi router with their nbn100, nbn250, and nbn1000 plans. This includes a complimentary eero Secure subscription. Similar to other providers, you need to stay connected for 18 months, or you may be required to pay for the router.
iPrimus NBN plans with a free modem
iPrimus offers a free Wi-Fi 6 modem with free delivery for those who commit to an 18-month contract. However, they do not specify the brand, model, or whether the modem is new or refurbished.
TPG NBN plans with a free modem / $100 credit
TPG offers a free Wi-Fi 6 modem if you sign a contract for at least six months, which is the shortest contract term available. If you prefer to purchase a new modem from another source, TPG also provides a $100 modem rebate, giving customers a $100 credit after filling out the rebate form within 30 days of signing up.
iinet NBN plans with a free modem
iiNet offers a free high-speed NBN modem to their customers when they stay connected for 24 months. This modem includes Wi-Fi 6 and 4G backup. However, if you cancel within the 24-month period, you will need to pay for the modem. Additionally, a $10 delivery fee applies.
Tomi NBN plans with a free modem
Tomi offers a free ZTE H1600 home NBN gateway/router to customers who stay connected for 24 months. It features dual-band concurrent Wi-Fi 6 with speeds up to 1800 Mbps. If you cancel within the 24-month period, you will need to pay the remaining modem fee.
