Optus operates 9,173 registered mobile sites across Australia as of 10 November 2025. New South Wales has the largest concentration with 2,971 sites (32.4% of the national total). 565 sites (6.2%) received government co-funding, reflecting investment in regional and underserved coverage.
Optus's 5G NR network covers 4,864 sites — 53% of all registered infrastructure. A further 4,241 sites (46.2%) remain 4G LTE-only with no 5G capability deployed at this time. Victoria leads 5G deployment with 61.2% of its sites 5G-enabled, while Northern Territory has the lowest 5G penetration at 7.7%.
3G (UMTS): 158 sites (1.7%), 4G (LTE): 9,105 sites (99.3%), 5G (NR): 4,864 sites (53%), NB-IoT: 7,993 sites (87.1%). 4G (LTE) is the most widely deployed technology with 9,105 sites (99.3%).
The most widely deployed frequency bands are: LTE 700 (8074 sites, 88%), NBIoT 700 (7993 sites, 87.1%), LTE 1800 (7308 sites, 79.7%).
