Network Analysis

Data-driven summary based on ACCC Mobile Infrastructure Report data as of 10 November 2025.

Network Overview

TPG operates 7,509 registered mobile sites across Australia as of 10 November 2025. New South Wales has the largest concentration with 2,400 sites (32% of the national total). 160 sites (2.1%) received government co-funding, reflecting investment in regional and underserved coverage.

5G Rollout

TPG's 5G NR network covers 4,147 sites — 55.2% of all registered infrastructure. A further 3,359 sites (44.7%) remain 4G LTE-only with no 5G capability deployed at this time. Australian Capital Territory leads 5G deployment with 66.4% of its sites 5G-enabled, while Tasmania has the lowest 5G penetration at 27.9%.

Technology Mix

4G (LTE): 7,506 sites (100%), 5G (NR): 4,147 sites (55.2%), NB-IoT: 3,604 sites (48%). 4G (LTE) is the most widely deployed technology with 7,506 sites (100%).

Key Frequency Bands

The most widely deployed frequency bands are: LTE 1800 (5826 sites, 77.6%), LTE 2100 (5166 sites, 68.8%), LTE 850 (4972 sites, 66.2%).

5G NR Frequency Ranges

5G NR operates across two frequency ranges. TPG uses 6 5G bands in total.

FR1 — Sub-6 GHz
410 MHz – 7.125 GHz
Low and mid-band frequencies offering wide coverage and moderate speeds. Ideal for broad geographic coverage including regional and rural areas.
NR 700 NR 3600 NR 2100 NR 900 NR 1800
FR2 — mmWave
24.25 GHz – 71 GHz
Millimetre-wave frequencies with very high speeds and capacity but shorter range. Suited for dense urban environments and high-traffic venues.
NR 26000
