In April, Victoria introduced new AI-enabled cameras designed to capture instances of drivers engaging in prohibited activities, mainly using portable devices such as mobile phones. Equipped with advanced AI technology and high-definition lenses, these cameras accurately capture images of offenders. Additionally, the cameras can identify individuals in the front seats who are not wearing seatbelts.
What Penalties Will You Face for Those Offenses?
From this Saturday, July 1, motorists will incur a hefty fine of $577 and a deduction of four demerit points from their license if caught using a mobile phone while driving. Similarly, not wearing a seatbelt correctly will result in a fine of $385 and a deduction of three demerit points.
Where Are the AI enabled Camera Locations?
As of July 2nd, 2023, a total of 122 camera locations have been disclosed.
