Recently, there has been widespread awareness of a potential news update indicating that NBN (National Broadband Network) may significantly enhance its speeds, up to 5 times faster than the current speed, by the end of the year at no additional cost to retailers. Currently, it remains uncertain whether the retailers will pass on this speed boost to their customers without imposing extra fees or if they will introduce additional charges for various reasons.
As per the proposal, NBN Co is set to enhance the speeds of their NBN100, NBN250, and NBN500/1000 plans. Notably, the most substantial benefit is expected for existing NBN100 users, whose download speed is anticipated to increase to 500 Mbps. If the current retailers decide not to raise the prices of their plans, customers may only need to pay around $90 per month to enjoy a 500 Mbps speed, compared to the current scenario where a similar speed could cost more than $120 per month.
