Are Suburbs Labeled as ‘Best for Families’ Truly Ideal for Families? – Burnside Heights

Recently, the media released a report ranking affordable suburbs as the best for families in Melbourne Vic. However, upon closer analysis, especially from a criminal perspective, it becomes apparent that some affordable suburbs may no longer be considered the best for families.

Today, we are exploring Burnside Heights, one of the ten suburbs including Botanic Ridge, Seabrook, Lynbrook, Lyndhurst, Taylors Hill, Cockatoo, Selb, Diamond Creek, and Sandhurst.

Burnside Heights

Burnside Heights, situated in the City of Melton, Victoria, Australia, is a suburban area located approximately 25 kilometers northwest of the Melbourne Central Business District (CBD). With a population of 6,377 individuals, this suburb has a median age of 33, which is notably younger than the overall median age of 38 in Victoria. Additionally, a vibrant community characterizes Burnside Heights, as 28.8% of its population is under 15 years old, indicating a higher proportion of children compared to the state average.

Education

Burnside Heights encounters an educational challenge as it has only two Centre-Based Care facilities, both of which are rated as meeting standards. For families seeking superior services, this could pose a challenge. The constrained availability implies that some families may need to explore childcare options in neighboring suburbs.

Safety

When considering safety, Burnside Heights distinguishes itself as a secure community, positioned within the top 16% of suburbs in VIC. Analysis of crime data over recent years indicates a consistently low number of offenses, with a notable decrease in crimes against individuals and a significant reduction in drug-related incidents. Additionally, since 2021, the total number of offenses has seen a 36% decrease, further reinforcing the suburb’s status as one of the safest in the region.

Family-Friendly Atmosphere

Despite these factors, Burnside Heights provides a family-friendly and safe environment. The presence of Tenterfield Park, complete with a playground, makes it an ideal location for family relaxation and recreation. To further enhance the attractiveness of this suburb for families, local authorities could concentrate on attracting additional childcare facilities and assisting existing ones in improving their service quality. This effort would contribute to establishing Burnside Heights as an optimal choice for families seeking a nurturing and secure community.
